HIGH-PROFILE DIRECT ACTION TO SEND PRO-PEACE MESSAGE IN DENVER

The first high-profile, direct action to send a pro-peace message following the terrorist attacks of September 11 will take place in Denver tomorrow. This action is completely nonviolent and will not cause harm to property or people. Because of the nature of direct action, the details and exact location of the action cannot be released at this time.

Unless extenuating circumstances intervene, the action will happen tomorrow morning. If the action occurs, several people will be arrested. After the action takes place, there will be a short press conference where a diverse group of experts and spokespeople will give statements about the context of the action’s message.

Your office will receive a fax and phone call between 6:30 and 7:00 AM to alert you that the action is about to occur and to provide you with the exact location.

STATEMENT ON LAST WEEK’S TRAGEDY

In the wake of last week’s tragedy, communities around the country are mobilizing to call for peace and compassion in our country’s response. The perpetrators of the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon must be brought to justice in a Court of International Law, and the United States must build a global consensus against terrorism. Global security and justice must come, though, through a peaceful and diplomatic international alliance, not through violence and the deaths of more innocent civilians.

This simple message of peace, justice, and compassion speaks to millions of Americans who are looking for a way to respond to the hate and violence of the attacks as well as the subsequent targeting of Muslims and people of Middle Eastern descent in this country. And this is the message that will reach millions tomorrow morning through the action taking place in Denver.
